Polish Interpreter in Crown Court with no interpreting qualifications

On the 22nd February 2012 I attended Nottingham Crown Court where I met a Polish ALS interpreter. We had a chat and it turned out that she failed her DPSI last year. How on earth can somebody unqualified be even considered for a serious Crown Court case?????
